| First off I am 18, don't live with my parents anymore, had my license and same insurance since I was about 16. No points/tickets/accidents or arrest on my records. I am on my parents insurance plan (AAA) Well I put my Z away around the end of October and decided to get a new DD and save up to have some body work done and a proper dyno tune for the Z. My dad finally got around to removing the Z from our insurance (i dont drive it at all during the winter, so no point in paying insurance right?). My dad said the insurance company didnt want to remove the car unless I canceled my registration and got a placed as a "non-operational vehicle" so i cant legally drive it on the streets. wtf? I just want to put it away for the winter not stash it for years and I dont want to deal with getting another smog check (NA->TT Swap, CA Car) and have to go back to the dmv and re register it just to drive the car around for a few weekends to to take to the shop to have work done and what not. So anyways i managed to cancel the insurance and keep my current registration BUT about 2 weeks after i did that I got a letter in the mail from the CA DMV saying that if I did not re-insure by 1-27-2010 my vehicle my registration would be suspended. I know my insurance company (AAAssholes) had something to do with it because my uncle canceled his insurance and canceled, went on vacation (its been about 2 months so far) and he received no such notice although the insurance co. gave him the same bs on the phone. Any ideas on what i should do? I dont mind the registration being suspended but is there some sort of insurance that would allow me to only drive the car a few months out of the year or not as many miles? I barley drive the Z. I only plan to drive maybe 4-6 days a month once the weather gets better and spending about $200 a month on insurance seems a little steep especially since this is my second car.
